Bunnies, Blooms, and Birds: Nature to Spot on Your Easter Campout!

Welcome to Spring! We've finally arrived at warmer nights, longer days, and a season bursting with colour and sound.

Whether you're heading out on an Easter camping adventure or exploring nature in your own garden or local park, we've compiled a list of our favourite wildlife to spot this season.

Frog spawn

Head to your nearest lake and keep an eye out for small jelly-like balls of frogspawn. These hundreds and thousands of eggs will cover the surface of lakes and ponds, beginning the life cycle of a new generation of frogs. Look for clumps of jelly-like eggs floating on or just below the surface of shallow, still water, especially in ponds and slow-moving streams during early spring.

Bluebells

Step into a fairy-tale landscape sea of blue and green carpets in the woodlands from mid-April to early May. Iconic to the English forests, once you spot one, you’ll soon see them everywhere, blanketing vast stretches of forests. If you're lucky, you might even spot a rare pink or white mutation!

Swifts

Keep an eye out for swifts as they return to the UK from their winter in Africa. Swifts have a remarkable lifestyle, spending most of their lives airborne - eating and sleeping while in flight, only landing to nest. Keep an ear out for their high-pitched, shriek-like calls as they swoop and soar through the sky.

Lady birds

From October to February, adult ladybirds enter a dormant state known as 'overwintering' to survive the winter. As temperatures rise in March and April, they become active again, leaving their overwintering sites in search of food. With 47 different species in a variety of colours, including red, orange, and black, be sure to keep an eye out for these vibrant little insects.

Bats

Keep an eye out for bats at dusk. They are most active during the first half-hour after sunset. While their activity peaks in summer, you may start spotting them on warmer spring nights as they emerge from hibernation.

As you set up camp this Easter, take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you - because nature’s best sights and sounds are right outside your tent! Happy camping! 🏕
