WHY CORNWALL IS ONE OF THE BEST UK CAMPING DESTINATIONS 🌞 🏄♀️ 🏕
If you’re looking for the perfect summer getaway, a camping trip in Cornwall should be at the top of your list. Combining stunning coastal scenery, hidden beaches, incredible surf spots and a relaxed way of life, the south west of the UK offers everything you need for the perfect camping escape. I recently spent two nights camping in Cornwall and managed to luck out with the best weather and the perfect tent setup.
We made our way up to Bude in the North of Cornwall and pitched up at the stunning Trelay Campsite. I used Boutique Camping’s Bell Tent Plus, along with a space saver pole to provide more usable space inside.
For this trip, we had no real itinerary, just a rough idea of things that looked interesting on Google Maps and the plan was to drive, wander and see where we ended up. Cornwall is perfect for this kind of travel, especially with the South West Coast Path stretching along the coastline from Exmoor in Devon, through Cornwall, and down toward Dorset. The whole path takes 7-8 weeks of walking to complete but you can join onto any part of it for a great hike.

We walked a section of the coast path near Stoke, just over the Devon border. After a few hours of strolling, we were treated to incredible scenery, dramatic black and green cliffs, wildflowers scattered across the landscape and hidden surf spots where locals were secretly catching waves on empty breaks.
Spending some time exploring Bude itself, we came across Zuma Jay’s surf shop. I tried on a few wetsuits, including some one-off sample sale C-Skins designs, a Cornish-made wetsuit brand. They also stock their own clothing range and a variety of boards and wetsuits to hire at a very reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit if you’re heading that way for a surf!
We managed to get a few surf sessions in, although I’d forgotten just how powerful the UK sea can be. Before heading home, we checked the waves one last time and they were easily over 10ft, well beyond my level, but amazing to watch the more experienced surfers out there handling it.

The food on this trip was a highlight, and I’m not about to keep these delicious recipes to myself, here are a few favourites to try on your next camping adventure.
Greek Pittas
Add onto skewers: Halloumi, courgette, mushroom and chicken skewers (or veggie chicken, can recommend ‘THIS Isn't Chicken Plant-Based Pieces’)
served with shop-bought tzatziki, olives and toasted pittas
Mackerel Pittas
For the sauce, mix together: Mustard, lemon, yoghurt, mayonnaise. BBQ the pittas or flatbreads and the pre cooked mackerel. Serve with tomatoes, so good!
For the drive home, we took the scenic route along the A39 (or also known as the Atlantic highway) and stopped in Lynmouth. The village was incredibly picturesque and a stunning seaside town to mooch around. With the river one way and the beach the other, it's got it all.

It really was one of those weekends that makes you want to pack up and head straight back out again! Can't wait for the next one!
