A hot tent is a tent used alongside a tent stove or heater. These tents are made designed using polycotton to keep you safe when using a stove inside. This material is also thick but breathable for better heat retention to ensure you’re kept warm and comfortable even on the coldest days. You can also purchase specially designed fire retardant tents made from 100% cotton too.
Hot tenting is perfect for expeditions in colder climates and allows you to brave winter weather without having to compromise on warmth and comfort.
Alongside the fireproof material, hot tents also have a range of features that make them unique to other glamping tents.
A hot tent is designed with a premade hole to allow the chimney of a stove to pass through. This hole funnels smoke out of the tent, keeping the warmth inside but expelling any fumes.
Hot tents are usually larger than standard tents, with high ceilings and walls to allow for ample chimney room. You’ll also benefit from more floor space so you can enjoy the warmth of a stove whilst still having room for furniture and accessories. Designs like our yurt tents also have mesh windows that allow for ventilation and fresh air to prevent a stuffy environment and condensation.
There’s not much use in a warm tent if it gets worn down by the elements, that’s why all of our hot tents are treated with waterproofing, UV and mould-resistant coating. This means you can enjoy your cosy tent for longer without worrying about wind, rain or sunny weather.
Other than the obvious benefit of added warmth, hot tent camping can actually have a range of positive effects.
Many people will avoid camping in colder months due to the dangers of braving the cold unprotected. With a hot tent, you can enjoy the outdoors all year round and see some stunning seasonal sights many get to miss, and with fewer crowds for a more peaceful retreat.
These warm, spacious tents offer more than just a place to sleep during camping. The vast space available allows you to use hot tents for a range of activities from yoga and dance studios to outdoor events spaces. Many people love to host celebrations in a hot tent including weddings and corporate parties as an alternative to conference halls and reception spaces.
It might sound like an unusual benefit, but if you’re striving for a more natural, eco-friendly form of glamping you can still enjoy your luxuries without damaging the environment. Hot tent camping using wood fires is a better option than traditional camping heaters and lights that are powered by fuels like gas canisters and oil.
A hot tent won’t be hot without a little heat, so here’s what appliances and accessories you need for cosy hot tent camping:
Our classic wood burning stove is designed especially for use in hot tents and provides a source of natural light and heat as well as a place to cook fresh meals on your trip. With a hob, grill and wood burning door, this traditional style stove offers a fabulous aesthetic for glamping as well as being practical.
Please note: It’s always important to exercise caution around stoves and fire. Ensure you follow any safety instructions provided and use a carbon monoxide alarm in your tent.
If you’re using a tent stove then you need to use the appropriate protection including mats and stove stands. These mats offer a barrier between the stove and the tent floor to prevent any damage to the tent fabric and provide extra stability for your stove.
If you want to ensure you stay extra warm and prevent cold air from getting in you can use extra tent accessories for an added layer of protection. Tent rugs and mats will provide a soft layer underfoot that helps keep cold air passing up through the ground, whilst an inner tent can be used when sleeping to create an extra barrier should any cold air enter your tent.
