How safe are hot tents?
Fire retardant hot tents are perfectly safe to sleep, camp and enjoy the great outdoors in. Just make sure the tent - and any stoves or ovens - are set-up according to instructions. That way, you’ll have the right amount of circulation to keep the risk of carbon monoxide at bay, without ending up with a freezing cold tent.
Do you need a carbon monoxide detector in a hot tent?
Make sure your tent is properly ventilated when using a hot tent stove, often by keeping the entrance open. As such, never go to sleep with the oven still on, while ensuring your stove is properly vented through the tent wall where possible.
While these can reduce your risk of a carbon monoxide leak, we highly advise bringing a detector on your camping trips - to ultimate peace of mind. Make sure you position the detector centrally at head level, one meter from the wood stove.
