However, it’s not enough to just pitch your spot and stay - you need to learn how to vent a stove in a tent to stay warm and keep your bellies full throughout your stay!

What you’ll need to vent a stove

Fire-resistant tent
Although it’s not always possible, choosing a tent with fire-resistant fabric is always a step in the right direction.
At Boutique Camping, we offer a variety of styles in 320gsm cotton, which has been treated with a fire retardant agent and includes an integrated hole for a stove jack (on selected designs) - making things easier from the get-go.
Stove flashing (or jack)
As we just mentioned, ensuring your tent has a safe stove flashing is crucial.
The flashing (also known as a jack) is a fire-resistant silicone collar that’s designed to create a safe exit point for the flue pipe. This allows the flue to pass through the wall of your tent, so make sure it's compatible with the size and shape of your chimney.
Flue
The flue is a metal pipe that helps to funnel smoke and fumes from your stove out of your tent. You might need additional sections depending on your size requirements - which is why our experts are on hand to help you make the right choice.
Spark arrestor
A spark arrestor is a separate attachment that’s affixed to the top of the flue pipe. This prevents any sparks from escaping and causing wildfires.
How to vent a stove in a tent
Now you’ve got your kit sorted, now it’s time to set up your stove and install that vent! At Boutique Camping, we offer an impressive range of woodburning stoves and even pizza ovens, perfect for cosy dinners or ambient lighting throughout year.
Installing your stove vent
- Take your stove flashing and follow the instructions provided in your pack. Our flashings require you to create a hole in the tent roof and securely attach it - creating enough room for ventilation.
- Then it’s time to put together your flue. Assemble the sections provided and make sure everything fits snugly both inside and outside the tent. Once you’ve fed it through the wall, attach the spark arrestor to the very top and check that the flue is secure.
- Once that’s all sorted, pop your stove on a fire-resistant flat surface (such as a heat mat or stand) within the tent, keeping it away from any flammable materials like sleeping bags or the tent wall itself.
- Now you can pop a few logs on and enjoy!
Safety first: things to keep in mind
When you’ve lit your stove or pizza oven, you must always have an open window or vent on the opposite side of the stove.
This creates a cross breeze that clears away smoke and prevents carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Never leave a lit stove unattended - especially overnight.
- Keep the area around your stove clear from flammable materials.
- Ensure the fire is out before leaving your tent.
- Regularly check your flue for any gaps, leakage or damage.
- Get a Carbon Monoxide Detector for complete peace of mind.
- Also keep a small fire extinguisher - just in case!
